If you are wondering because money already feels tight, that is completely understandable. Maybe you earn a regular income but still watch it disappear. You might be moving bills around, choosing what can wait, dreading the next annual expense or wondering why you never seem to get ahead. The fee is only one side of the decision. The other is what staying in the same cycle may already be costing you in interest, late fees, lost sleep, time and delayed goals.

How does MyBudget work, and how are fees calculated?
MyBudget operates on a tailored fee-for-service model. If you join, you pay an establishment fee and an ongoing weekly administration fee for the setup and continued management of your budget. Your first appointment and personalised 12-month budget are free, so you can see what is possible and how the fees fit before making a decision.
| Cost component | What it covers | When you see the cost |
| Free appointment and plan | Financial review and personalised 12-month plan | Free, before you decide |
| Establishment fee | Setup of your tailored budget and service | Shown in your proposed budget before you join |
| Weekly administration fee | Ongoing money management, app and human support | Shown in your proposed budget before you join |
The establishment fee is spread across your initial 12-month budget rather than paid as one upfront amount. The ongoing administration fee covers the caring team, day-to-day money management and technology that help turn the plan on paper into bills paid, savings set aside and progress you can see.
Why doesn’t MyBudget publish one standard price?
MyBudget does not publish one standard price because the work is shaped around the person, not a package. Someone juggling several debts, overdue bills and creditor calls may need a different level of setup and support from someone who mainly wants their bills, savings and goals organised in one place.
In your free appointment, a Personal Budgeting Specialist uses your real income, bills, debts and goals to build a personal budget with 12-month visibility. Your fees are shown inside your budget, so you can see what life with MyBudget could look like and decide from your own numbers, without pressure.
What won’t you pay when you join MyBudget?
MyBudget’s fees are explained before you decide to join, so you can see exactly what is included and what you will not be charged.
- No commissions for recommending loans, credit cards or financial products
- No long-term lock-in contracts
- No exit fees if you decide to leave
- No upfront lump-sum establishment fee, as this is spread across your initial 12-month budget
- No lost account funds when you cancel, as any remaining money in your MyBudget account is returned to you.
Your initial appointment and personalised 12-month budget are also free, with no obligation to become a client.
What is included in MyBudget’s fees?
MyBudget’s fees cover human-led budgeting help and a managed money service. Caring money experts work alongside smart budgeting technology to give you a clear budget plan, manage the day-to-day details and help you stay on track when life changes.
- A personalised 12-month budget that accounts for income, bills, living expenses, debt repayments, savings and future costs
- Income organised across bills, repayments, savings and living expenses
- Bills and repayments scheduled and managed to help prevent missed due dates
- 24/7 access through the MyBudget app and client portal, including cash flow forecasts and progress towards financial goals
- Support from experienced Money Coaches when bills, income or priorities change
- Help communicating with creditors and arranging manageable repayments where appropriate.
Free budgeting apps can be useful for tracking what has already happened. MyBudget helps you see what is coming over the next 12 months, then does the heavy lifting to help make the plan happen. Bills are managed, savings are set aside and support is there when something changes. It is for people who do not just need more information. They need a workable system and human support beside them.
What is the cost of doing nothing with your finances?
The cost of doing nothing rarely arrives as one obvious bill. It builds through credit card interest, late fees and overdrawn account charges. It also shows up in overdue notices, another Sunday night spent deciding which payment can wait, and goals that keep moving further away.
When the same money-management cycle continues, the cost may include:
- Interest continuing to accumulate while debt balances reduce slowly
- Late fees, missed-payment charges or overdrawn account fees
- Credit being used again when annual bills or unexpected expenses arrive
- Minimum repayments stretching debt over a much longer period
- Savings goals delayed because there is no consistent amount set aside
- Hours spent moving money, checking due dates and deciding which bill to pay first.
That is why, for many clients, the comparison is not simply the MyBudget fee versus doing it alone. It is the fee versus ongoing interest and charges, bills that keep slipping through, debt that does not seem to reduce and the mental load of carrying it all yourself.
Clients tell us time and again that the fee feels small alongside what becomes possible: bills paid on time, debt being paid down, money set aside for goals, less financial stress and more freedom to enjoy life without money worries hanging over every decision.
If this sounds familiar, it does not mean you have failed with money. Often, the system you are managing alone is not giving you enough visibility, structure or support. Add up what the cycle is costing across a typical month, including interest, fees and the time spent keeping everything afloat. The total may be larger than it first appears.

For Kim and Bob, staying stuck cost more than the MyBudget fee
Kim and Bob know how quickly the cost of falling behind can take over family life. When they joined MyBudget in 2010, they were raising four children on one income, dealing with debt collectors and facing the possibility of having their power disconnected.
_I actually worked it out over a 12-month period, what it was going to cost us in overdue fees, late fees and interest payments. We were actually saving money by joining MyBudget._ _Kim | MyBudget client_
The comparison showed that what Kim and Bob were already losing to overdue fees, late fees and interest was higher than the MyBudget fee. For their family, MyBudget was not simply another expense. It replaced a cycle that was already costing them more and taking a toll on their peace of mind.
With a personalised budget, managed repayments and caring support, Kim and Bob paid off $28,000 across 12 debts in 13 months. But the bigger story is what came next. More than 16 years later, they are still MyBudget clients and use their budget to plan for cars, family holidays and their first home. They moved from reacting to the next bill to building a future they could look forward to.

Where could your finances be 12 months from now?
Now look forward. Picture where you could be 12 months from now if the bills were organised, debt was reducing and money was already being set aside for the expenses that usually catch you out. A workable system creates the chance for each month to build on the one before it, even when motivation or circumstances change.
Our team often hears new clients say, “I wish I had started earlier.” Clients who leave and later return sometimes ask, “Where would my finances be if I had just stayed with MyBudget?” That is not about dwelling on the past or creating pressure. It is about recognising how much can change when a realistic plan keeps working long after the first burst of motivation has faded.
This is our 3rd time back. We are debt free! Please contact MyBudget. You won’t be disappointed, only annoyed you didn’t do it sooner!
Dani | Verified Trustpilot review, December 2023
You cannot rewrite the months that have passed, but you can decide what the next 12 months are for. With a realistic plan in place, each pay can begin doing more: covering bills before they are due, reducing debt, building a buffer and moving towards the life you want. A year from now, the question could be how far you have come.
What results do MyBudget clients report?
MyBudget’s 2026 survey of 741 clients found a clear improvement in financial wellbeing, not only financial outcomes. Clients reported moving from financial stress and uncertainty towards greater control, structure and confidence.
- 92.6% reported significantly lower financial stress after joining MyBudget
- Clients reported a 95% decrease in missing repayments
- 53.3% had more than $1,000 available in an emergency fund.
Clients also reported an average 2.72 more nights of sleep each week without financial stress disrupting them, while reduced financial admin gave them an average 4.6 days back each year. These are aggregated, client-reported results. Every situation is different and individual results will vary.
Do I stay in control of my money?
Yes. You stay in control of your money and your decisions. MyBudget takes care of the practical work of organising your budget and scheduled payments, while you keep visibility over what is happening and why.
You can see your budget, spending, savings and upcoming commitments through the MyBudget app and online portal. If your income, bills or priorities change, you can request an update and see how it affects your future forecast. Money can be transferred between your MyBudget and personal accounts by bank transfer, and unexpected expenses can be added to your plan.
Are there hidden fees or lock-in contracts?
No. MyBudget fees and charges are explained before you join, and there are no long-term lock-in contracts.
If you decide the service is no longer right for you, the team will explain what happens with upcoming bills and repayments, and any remaining funds in your MyBudget account will be returned to you.
Is MyBudget worth the cost?
MyBudget may be worth the cost when the value of bills paid on time, debt reducing, savings growing and the mental load lifting is greater than the fee. The most useful comparison considers what each option provides, what your current system may already be costing you and where each approach could leave you 12 months from now.
Choosing the right kind of help depends on your situation, the level of support you need and whether you want to manage everything yourself or have someone help with the day-to-day work.
| Feature | MyBudget | Free budgeting app | Free financial counsellor |
| Cost | Tailored establishment and ongoing administration fees, explained before you join | Usually free, although some features may require a subscription | Free through eligible community or government-funded services |
| Personalised budget | A personalised budget based on your income, bills, debts and goals | Usually requires you to create and maintain your own budget | May help you understand your financial situation and available options |
| Future visibility | Shows your budget and upcoming expenses across the next 12 months | Varies by app, with many focused on tracking transactions and spending | Depends on the service and your circumstances |
| Bill and repayment management | Helps manage scheduled bills and repayments | You remain responsible for paying bills and managing repayments | Does not usually manage your ongoing bills or payments |
| Human support | Ongoing support from MyBudget’s team and Money Coaches | Usually limited to customer support or online resources | Support from a qualified financial counsellor, depending on availability |
| Help with creditors | May help communicate with creditors and arrange manageable repayments where appropriate | Usually not included | May help negotiate with creditors and explain hardship options |
| Best suited to | People who want ongoing budgeting support, 12-month visibility and help managing their money day to day | People comfortable managing their own budget, bills and savings | People experiencing financial hardship who need free support with debt or urgent money problems |
A free budgeting app or spreadsheet may be enough if you are comfortable managing your finances independently. If you are experiencing financial hardship and need free support, a financial counsellor may be the right place to start. MyBudget may be more suitable if you want ongoing human support, forward visibility and help managing the day-to-day practicalities of your money.
MyBudget may be a better fit if you:
- Earn a regular income but still feel like your money disappears too quickly
- Are repeatedly falling behind on bills or repayments
- Have tried budgeting on your own but struggle to maintain it
- Want to see your finances 12 months ahead rather than only reviewing past spending
- Want a team to manage the day-to-day execution while you stay in control
- Value accountability, human support and a plan that can adjust when life changes.

Do I have to pay an upfront fee to get a MyBudget plan?
No. Your initial appointment and personalised 12-month budget plan are free, with no obligation to continue. Can MyBudget help if late fees and interest are already adding up?
Yes. MyBudget can organise your bills and debt repayments into a realistic plan, schedule payments and, where appropriate, communicate with creditors about manageable arrangements. Learn more about the practical budgeting help available.
Can I use MyBudget if I do not have debt?
Yes. MyBudget is also used by people who want to manage bills more easily, build savings, plan for irregular expenses or reach goals such as a home deposit or holiday. The service can suit people who earn a regular income but want more structure, 12-month visibility and caring human support than they get from managing a budget alone, especially when life changes.
What happens if my financial situation changes after I join?
Your budget can be adjusted when your income, bills, living expenses or goals change. You can contact the team through the app, online or by phone, and your updated forecast will show how the change affects future payments and savings. Free, independent and confidential financial counselling is available from the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007. Get budgeting support
The honest answer: MyBudget does not publish a single fixed price, because the service is tailored to each person's situation. What follows is exactly how the fees are structured, and what is free.
What's free
- The first appointment — about ten minutes, confidential, no obligation
- Your personalised 12-month budget — built around your income, expenses and goals
The budget is yours to keep whether or not you go any further. Nothing obliges you to join after seeing it.
What you pay if you join
There are two fees:
An establishment fee. This covers setting up your tailored budget and service. Rather than being paid as a lump sum upfront, it is spread across your initial 12-month budget.
An ongoing weekly administration fee. This covers the day-to-day money management — the team, the bill scheduling and payments, app access and Money Coach support.
Both are shown in your proposed budget before you join, alongside everything else. There are no hidden costs and no long-term lock-in contracts.
Why there is no price list
The work differs from client to client. Someone with a single income, four bills and one debt is a different job from a household with irregular income, a dozen creditors and a payment arrangement to negotiate. A fixed price would either overcharge the first or underserve the second.
This is also why any figure you see quoted elsewhere for "the MyBudget fee" should be treated with caution — the number that applies to you is the one in your own proposed budget.
The incidental fee schedule
Separately from the service fees, a schedule of incidental fees applies to specific requests. Under the MyBudget Fee Schedule, effective 16 October 2023, in AUD including 10% GST:
| Fee type | Amount |
|---|---|
| Unbudgeted withdrawals | FREE |
| Transactions processed immediately outside of regular payment runs | $22.00 |
| Arrangements fee (per) | $55.00 |
Fees are subject to change. Your Terms of Service or Budget Plan sets out when these and other fees may apply, and MyBudget advises you of a fee and whether it applies at the time you make the relevant request.
How to think about the value
The useful comparison is not against zero — it is against what the current situation costs you. Late fees, dishonour fees, interest on debt carried longer than necessary, and the hours spent juggling it all have a price too, even when it does not appear on a statement.
In MyBudget's 2026 client survey of 741 respondents, 9 in 10 clients reported less financial stress. Founder and Director Tammy Barton states that 97% of clients' bills are paid on time.
Whether that is worth the fee depends on your situation — which is what the free appointment and free budget are for. You see the numbers before you decide.
